At TANDEM STUBAI, we know: autumn is something truly unique for flying. In spring and summer, thermals often make the air quite bumpy during a flight – but in autumn, the air is more stable and gentle. Perfect for a calm, relaxed flight where you can just lean back and enjoy.
And then there’s the view! Floating from the Elfer over Neustift, with larches glowing in every shade of yellow beneath you – it looks like someone painted the valley with a giant brush. No filter in the world can capture that.
In October, the Stubai Valley is noticeably quieter. The big tourist groups are gone, you hear your own breath on the trails again, and the launch sites have a relaxed, peaceful vibe.
We pilots love this atmosphere. You notice everything slows down a bit – more relaxed, as people like to say nowadays. Many come exactly for this: to switch off, take a deep breath, and gain a new perspective.
And the light! No harsh summer glare, but warm and soft. It drapes over the mountains like a golden filter you never want to turn off. Flying in these conditions makes everything feel more intense.
If you’re planning an autumn flight, here are a few things to keep in mind:
🧤 Dress warmly. It can get chilly in the air, even if it’s still mild in the valley. A windproof jacket, warm shoes, and thin gloves are essential.
☀️ Don't forget your sunglasses. The sun is lower in the sky, so glare is stronger – but the light is simply magical!
📅 Be flexible with timing. Autumn days are usually stable, but weather can change faster. If we need to reschedule, it’s no big deal – we usually find a new time slot quickly.
📸 Camera? Of course!But don’t forget to simply enjoy the moment. If you book our photo & video service, we’ll capture everything so you can focus fully on the experience.
If you’re lucky, there’s a delicate haze in the valley below, and you glide right above it. It feels like flying on clouds. There are moments where even we pilots forget that we’ve done this hundreds of times.
Beyond the flight itself, autumn in Stubai is an experience on the ground too. After landing, you can stroll through colorful forests, enjoy an apple strudel on a sunny terrace, or even take another flight – no problem! Many use autumn to go up for a second flight, perhaps later in the afternoon when the light shifts.
Many say after their flight: “I never thought it could be this peaceful.” And that’s exactly what surprises most people. No adrenaline shock, no wild action. Just this peaceful floating, that feeling of freedom and lightness.
Maybe that’s why autumn is so special: because it reminds you to let go for a moment – quite literally.
