in beautiful Stubai

Stubai is our own slice of paradise. It's where we feel at home, where we explore every summit, every hut, and every tree from the sky. On this page, every paraglider pilot can access comprehensive information about our flying spots in Stubaital. Don't hesitate to share it with your fellow pilots!

Two flight areas in Stubaital

In Stubaital, located very close to Innsbruck, we are fortunate to have two incredibly unique flying areas, thanks to our favorable "microclimate". The valley's sheltered position, nestled among towering mountain peaks, allows us to take flight on nearly every day. Even when other flying areas are grounded due to strong north or south winds, you can be confident that many pilots will continue to savor the stunning panorama in Stubai.

Elfer is renowned for its suitability for beginners, whereas Schlick 2000 offers real cross-country flying potential. At Elfer, you can frequently enjoy soaring and catching thermals, particularly in the afternoon.

Elfer Stubaital flight area

Elferlifts, Neustift

Elfer in Stubai is renowned as a flying mountain for a reason. Thanks to its favorable conditions, it regularly hosts a variety of courses, including basic, intermediate, and advanced flight training, as well as thermal training. There are multiple takeoff spots, including one right next to the mountain station, and the landing site is conveniently close to the valley station.

Schlick Stubaital flight area

Schlick 2000, Fulpmes

Kreuzjoch (Schlick 2000) provides a notably higher starting point compared to Elfer, and its southeast orientation makes it an excellent choice for cross-country flying. The takeoff area, while slightly smaller, is still quite manageable, and the landing site is just a 10-15 minute walk from the valley station.

Foehn forecast Tyrol

Be careful with foehn weather conditions! Both strong southern foehn and northern foehn can cause turbulent conditions. In general, it is difficult to define the southern and northern foehn based on the pressure difference between Bolzano and Innsbruck.

As a general guideline, when the foehn diagram displays a pressure difference of up to 4 hPa on Patscherkofel, you can anticipate wind speeds of approximately 30-50km/h (southern foehn). In such conditions, flying at Schlick (higher takeoff location) may become less favorable, but Elfer could still be flyable. However, when the pressure difference reaches 6 hPa or more, it often results in very strong winds with gusts exceeding 80 km/h. You might visually spot a foehn wall on the mountain range southeast of Elfer.

Kindly be aware that this information does not serve as an endorsement or recommendation for flying in foehn weather conditions and strong winds. Even with a 4 hPa pressure difference, foehn conditions can lead to highly windy and gusty situations. Exercise extreme caution when considering this information, and please understand that we bear no responsibility for your choices.
